Gold Plating

Gold Plate Application

Hard gold plating refers to a gold electrodeposit which gets alloyed with another element to alter the gold’s grain structure for achieving a harder deposit.

Decorative gold plating can be applied over most metal substrates including brass, steel, stainless steel and aluminium. At Sterling Electroplating we only plate with 23.5-Carat Gold.

Gold Plating of Jewellery

Gold plating is primarily designed for jewellery requiring a high tolerance wear factor.

The jewellery exhibits the bright rich colour of 24-Carat Gold with certain additives which make the jewellery extremely durable.

This is commonly used for costume jewellery seeking to imitate more expensive pieces.

Electroplating Gold Jewellery

Electroplating gold jewellery is quite an easy process but needs to undergo different steps.

At Sterling Electro Plating, our experts start by thoroughly cleaning the jewellery to remove the pollutants. This is necessary as the accumulation of dirt and oil on the base metal would keep the gold layer from bonding properly.

We make use of different methods including polishing, ultrasonic cleaning and electro cleaning to get the best possible results.

The thickness of gold plating can range somewhere between 2.5 to 5 plus microns (thousandths of millimeters).
